Mining Engineer (Medium Term Planning)
Visa sponsorship
Engineering · Brisbane, QLD, Australia · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Employer sponsored
A permanent medium-term planning post for a Mining Engineer is open at a big underground mine in Queensland that produces zinc, lead and silver. Planning here is demanding: there are several working areas, and development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, infrastructure, services and production readiness all depend on one another across a long mine life.
The engineer keeps the mine plans and schedules up to date and moving forward, so that production and development targets are met. Base yourself in Brisbane, fly to the mine on a FIFO roster or live at the mine. Visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates.
List mine planning software, underground hard rock work and your degree on the CV. A mining graduate from Kampala can include study details. Sort out a technical CV with Build AI CV.
Key Responsibilities
- Draw up and maintain mine plans and schedules, improving them continuously so targets for production and development are met.
- Turn Life-of-Mine and long-term plans into medium-term sequences that are practical.
- Make those sequences optimise stope extraction, development timing, ventilation availability and infrastructure readiness.
- Ensure sequences can be converted to short term plans.
Requirements & Eligibility
- A degree-level qualification in Mining Engineering or something closely related.
- A record of working in underground hard rock mines, preferably in mine planning, scheduling or technical services.
- Hands-on use of planning and design tools such as Deswik or Surpac (or equivalent) for planning development, sequencing stopes and analysing schedules.
- Good command of underground mining methods, what development needs and how production is sequenced.
- Able to weigh geological, geotechnical, ventilation and operational limits and fold them into workable mine plans, with an analytical, solution-minded approach to spotting planning risks and constraints.
