Trading the red-earth dust of home for Christchurch? A locally owned electrical and civil contractor there needs a permanent, full-time Electrical Distribution Cable Jointer to join a growing team. Safety, quality workmanship and teamwork are what the company looks for.
You would joint and terminate distribution cables, install and test underground runs, repair faults and take part in commissioning.
The employer is an Accredited Employer and welcomes suitably qualified overseas cable jointers, so it can sponsor the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). The people who can apply are New Zealand citizens or residents, applicants with a valid open work visa, and those who meet AEWV requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Build cable joints and terminations on LV and HV circuits
- Take underground electrical distribution cables from installation through testing to commissioning, and handle jointing and terminations across PILC, XLPE and further distribution cable types
- Put distribution pillars, kiosks, RMUs and transformers in place and connect them up
- Track down faults, repair them and help restore the network in an emergency
- Help deliver overhead-to-underground conversion jobs
- Complete cable testing and the commissioning of the network
- Operate safely around both live and de-energised parts of the electrical distribution network, and uphold quality workmanship, safe practice and compliance on every task
Requirements & Eligibility
- Holds the New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Supply (Cable Jointer) Level 4, or a recognised qualification of equivalent standing
- NZ electrical registration (EWRB) that is current, held together with a practising licence
- Proven experience in electrical distribution cable jointing and underground network construction
- A sound knowledge of both industry regulations and electrical distribution safety procedures
- Current Class 1 NZ driver licence (Class 2 preferred)
- Overseas applicants: a recognised cable jointer qualification equivalent to NZ standards and at least two years' experience as a qualified electrical distribution cable jointer, and must also meet the qualification assessment and registration requirements before any offer of employment can be made
