Financial Accountant

Onshore applicants only

Visa sponsorship

Accounting & Finance · Melbourne, VIC, Australia · Contract · $90,000 - $120,000/yr · Visa: Employer sponsored · Applicants: Onshore applicants only

Month-end discipline, balance sheet integrity and multi-entity compliance sit at the centre of this Financial Accountant role with a high-growth digital marketplace business in Melbourne. It is a hybrid, temporary-to-permanent position that gives stability now and a defined path to permanent full-time employment.

Reporting to the Financial Controller and aligned day to day with the CFO, you would be the group's hands-on financial engine: reviewing core ledgers, supporting baseline cash and budgeting routines and working with an assistant accountant who handles transactions, in a lean, non-bureaucratic setting with direct access to senior leadership. The position suits people already in Australia on a Working Holiday visa who can show proven accounting capability. Eligible holders can receive full visa support.

Ugandan accountants should show statutory compliance work, intercompany experience and software skills on the CV, in plain, measurable lines. Use Build AI CV to prepare an accounting CV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take the month-end and period-end close in Xero across operating entities: journals, balance sheet reconciliations, consolidated trial balances
  • Ensure tax and statutory compliance across the group, including BAS/GST lodgements and payroll tax reconciliations
  • Handle leave provisions and FBT returns alongside external tax advisors
  • Review the daily transactions, invoice entry, receivables follow-ups and routine payroll runs of an offshore Assistant Accountant
  • Look after intercompany loans, recharges and eliminations to keep balance sheets audit-ready
  • Maintain the short-term cash flow tracker, compile actual-versus-budget variances and help with data for annual budget roll-forwards
  • Use the group's enterprise AI tools and automation platforms to speed up recurring reconciliations and routine accounting
  • Help executives with ad-hoc schedules and documents on group structuring and entity setups

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
  • CA/CPA status, or an international equivalent (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), completed or underway
  • Hands-on financial accounting in Australia or a comparable jurisdiction, with month-end ledgers owned and statutory compliance met
  • Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417 or 462) holders with full Australian work rights are strongly encouraged to apply; employer sponsorship is supported for high-performing talent moving to permanent status
  • Personal accountability, attention to detail and the adaptability to keep structure in a dynamic scale-up
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication and confidence with executive stakeholders
