An experienced Health and Safety Lead / Manager is wanted in Auckland to run the Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) function of an environmental and engineering consultancy across New Zealand, leading a dedicated HSW team.
Broad senior HSW experience is welcome. The employer is an Immigration New Zealand Accredited Employer, a status that links to AEWV sponsorship. Leading by example and explaining risk plainly are part of the daily work. Strong relationships across the business make safety easier to achieve.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of HSW systems, processes and assurance to meet legislation and help safe work, and keep improving them
- Coach, develop and lead the HSW team
- Work in partnership with project teams, senior leaders and managers
- Grow a positive, people-focused HSW culture through engagement, learning and training
- Keep an eye on and report on HSW performance, and drive it, such as hazards, risks, lessons learned and incidents
- Manage the key relationships with contractors, suppliers and external agencies
- See that HSW systems are effective, legally compliant and aligned with ISO standards
Requirements & Eligibility
- A current New Zealand driving licence
- Consulting, professional services or engineering experience is desirable but not essential
- Experience managing H&S systems, incidents, risk and contractors
- First-class presentation, writing and facilitation skills
- Sound business acumen
- Sound people leadership and coaching, with experience leading a health and safety team
- Experience applying Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles and people-centred safety approaches such as Just Culture or Safety II
- Experience with Donesafe or a similar HSW information system
- A NEBOSH certificate in occupational health and safety, or an equivalent qualification
- At least 5 years in health and safety, in a similar post
