At a waterfront restaurant and café near Nelson, New Zealand, there is room for a Duty Manager. The venue has a liquor licence and capacity for 200 guests at most, serves every day of the week, and finds its summers hectic and winters slower. Management believes in good food, authentic hospitality and straightforward systems that keep service consistently excellent.
Your role is to supervise the floor on rostered shifts, as the person holding the licence. That means looking after service and guest experience, leading the team on duty and making sure the venue runs safely and lawfully. It is a permanent position of at least 30 hours a week, covering weekends and public holidays.
You must already have the right to work in New Zealand. The employer is accredited under the AEWV and may be in a position to sponsor a work visa for the right person.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the floor on each of your shifts
- Be the licensed Duty Manager, with host responsibility and duties under the alcohol sale and supply Act
- Hold a short briefing before each shift
- Support and coach staff while service is under way
- Ensure everyone follows the venue's systems, checklists and procedures
- Handle cash-up, opening, closing and handovers accurately
- Respond calmly to guest feedback, escalating larger issues to the Restaurant Manager
Requirements & Eligibility
- A Duty Manager Certificate (Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012), or the ability to obtain one promptly
- Either the National Certificate in Food & Beverage Service (Level 3) or an equivalent qualification, or study towards it
- Hospitality experience in a supervisory or shift-leadership role
- Sound wine, beverage and food service knowledge, and confidence with rosters and wage cost expectations for a shift
- Proficiency with IdealPOS, NowBookIt, Operandio, Slack and Loaded
- The right to work in New Zealand
