Auckland is getting a large new property from a group that runs hostels and hybrid hotel-hostel stays, with food and beverage venues, across Australia and New Zealand, and the group wants a General Manager to lead it.
The post is senior and covers the whole property. Department heads for Host, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Maintenance answer to you, while you answer for the guest experience, team culture, financial performance and compliance.
Since this is a pre-opening post, a January 2027 start is planned ahead of a March opening, which lets you help build the operation and leadership team early; please send a cover letter. The company is an accredited employer, welcomes candidates from New Zealand and overseas and can sponsor visa applications for the right person.

Key Responsibilities
- Head up the whole property, with Host, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Maintenance leaders answering to you
- Be responsible for how guests experience the place and how the team feels
- Be responsible for the financial results, standards and compliance
- Before the doors open, work with colleagues to build the operation and pull the leadership team together
- Help shape the culture and carry a new property from plans through to opening day
- After opening, tie the departments together, support the leaders and keep the teams in step
Requirements & Eligibility
- Track record running a busy hotel or hostel
- Grasp of lodging and yield management
- Awareness of what makes a property commercially strong
- Comfort with budgets, labour, revenue and cost control
- Some exposure to food and beverage, ideally in bars, restaurants or busy social venues
- Knowing the Auckland hospitality and lodging scene is helpful, though not essential
- A cover letter, required to be considered for interview
